Do you love hosting dinners? For us, it always starts with the tableware

Organiseer je graag etentjes? Dit begint bij ons altijd bij het servies

The most beautiful evenings of our summer almost always begin the same way. The door is open, something's simmering on the stove, the first friends are wandering into the garden and we're still quickly setting the table. It's busy, it's cosy, and somewhere between choosing the plates and filling the glasses, all the rush of the day falls away. We love hosting dinners. It started for us during our time in hospitality, which is where our love of tableware was born. And honestly, it's still that way today.

When we first started cooking together for friends, we had a hodgepodge of plates. Fun, but never quite finished. Only when we chose tableware that matched did the table suddenly feel like a whole. Not fancy or stiff, but calm and warm. And that's exactly what makes a dinner lovely: not the perfect dish, but the feeling that care has gone into the evening.

Start with the size of your group

If you love having people over, you rarely set the table for two. In summer, six to eight people are quickly gathered around our table, which is why we prefer to work with a dinnerware set for 8 people. Our tip, after plenty of evenings: don't count on the exact number of guests, always add a few plates. Someone almost always joins unexpectedly, and nothing is more annoying than eating off a too-small plate yourself because you're just one short. If you usually keep it more intimate, a tableware set for 6 people is a lovely starting point that you can expand later.

Choose a calm base

What has given us the most peace over the years is choosing a neutral base. Earthy tones make your food look more beautiful, and you never tire of them. A summer salad, a roasted fish or a dessert with red berries simply come into their own on a soft background. We started with a beige tableware set and are still building on it today. Want to know why that calm, natural look works so well? You can read more about it in our blog on Japandi at the table.

Dare to mix

A large table doesn't have to consist of one identical set. We combine our plates freely, precisely because the reactive glaze gives every piece its own nuance. That makes a long table lively rather than strict. And because we work with fixed colours, you can still reorder in exactly the same shade years later.

It doesn't have to be complete all at once

Perhaps the loveliest part: a beautiful table grows, it isn't bought in a single afternoon. Many of our customers, and we ourselves too, start with a set for six and expand to eight later as the group grows. That way you build up calmly, at your own pace, without having to fill a whole cupboard in one go.

So do you love hosting dinners? Then start where we once started: with a table that feels right. Take a look at our tableware sets for 8 people for the big summer evenings, or a dinnerware set for 6 people as a lovely starting point. And then it's just a matter of hoping for good weather and long evenings.
