Beige tableware in warm earth tones
Our beige comes from the Portuguese landscape and not from a colour chart. You see the Portuguese rock formations again in On The Rocks, Limestone Valley is the limestone tone of the hills, and Broken Shells is matte white with golden brown speckles like the shells that wash up along the coast.
Every piece is finished by hand and goes through the kiln with a reactive glaze. The colour shifts during firing, so each plate gets its own colours and patterns. That is not a flaw but the character of the material.
You see it back on the table: a table set with beige tableware looks warm rather than uniform, even when everything comes from the same line.
From sand to taupe
What people call beige is in practice a family. Sand is the lightest and coolest of the three. Taupe sits warmer and moves towards grey brown. Cream leans towards off-white and works as the calmest base of them all.
It is precisely by using two or three of these tones together that a table gains depth. One beige is flat, three beiges is layered. We ourselves like to set the table with a light base layer and a warmer tone on top.

A single plate or a complete set
You buy beige tableware in two ways, and which one suits you depends on what you already have.
If you are starting in a new home, a complete tableware set is the easiest route. You have everything you need in one go and you know for sure that it goes together. The sets are put together by number of people, from two to eight.
If you would rather add to what you have, you buy single pieces. Our beige plates run from dinner plate to cake plate, and because the colours come from the same lines a single plate always suits a set you bought earlier.

Combining beige with other colours
Beige is the easiest base to build on, and that is exactly why it is worth choosing one other colour to go with it.
Put green next to it and your table gains depth. Wild Olive works well for that, because like beige it is a natural tone and so it never shouts. If you prefer to keep it light and calm, go for off-white. And if you want contrast, one dark piece among your beige tableware does more than a second complete set.
